twitter, band soup, and mastering

twitter gets the word out. bandsoup.com gets the music out. and we need to get the lead out.

there are, literally, like four tweaks that need to be done to the songs that comprise super kaiju monster blast before it can be called done. then, once done it must be uploaded to tunecore, who will then pass it off to itunes, amazon, emusic, et. al., which I understand could take up to six weeks. hopefully that will be much shorter, though.

in any case, if day jobs and nightlife would stop interfering we could bang out the fixes and be done. but alas, the rent has to be paid, if you know what I mean.

so hang in there, new friends and old faithfuls. keep your eye on the blog or on the twitter feed and you’ll be first to know when skmb is ready to roll.

slowly I turned, inch by inch

and… we’re done. the mixing, barring some wild screw up that hasn’t been uncovered yet, is finished. next up, the mastering. or, as we like to think of it here in lloyd-tones land, giving the songs a hug and sprinkling them with fairy dust.

so close. so… very… close!

penultimate mixing went very well. there are just a couple of level and EQ tweaks that need to be done before mastering can begin. hang tight, everyone. we’re almost there.

latest from the front

1. yes, a new site is in the works.
2. tweaking mixes sucked, must retweak (again!)
3. wrote most of a new song while breaking in the guitars after having them freshly setup.
4. baseball is nearly afoot.

site redesign?

is there a site redesign in the future? probably. will it keep the blog? probably. will it be entirely run with wordpress? probably not. so there you go. you’ve been warned.

and we’ve found another way to procrastinate…

final mixing, honest and for true

I hate final mixing, I really do. The damned songs are done! Why must we go back over them endlessly trying to tweak that one little thing that no one is going to hear anyway?

Because it’s what you have to do. It’s necessary. Or as an old friend used to say, “It’s good for a person.” The tone was that of a parent explaining why you should eat your vegetables. Sigh.

In any case, unless everything has to be redone (or undone) tomorrow, 3 songs are in the can. With three more to go before we get to the next horrible “good for a person” stage… <said with a visible shudder> mastering.

right, so, mixing then

yes, it’s true. final mixing is now underway. technical difficulties involving “updated” drivers that disagreed with a particular persnickety powerbook contributed to a portion of the delay. but those issues have been addressed. rapid progress is expected!

behind schedule (or, bloodied but unbowed)

operation mix tweak is behind schedule due to the stupidity of day jobs and other commitments. but all is not lost. by the (overly) aggressive project plan we’re only 2 to 3 days behind. there’s still hope we’ll get there sooner rather than later. heave!

letters! we get letters!

well, not so far. but the lloyd-tones (and the infamous Hipdeep Records) now have a P.O. Box. So if you’re so moved, feel free to drop us a good old fashioned paper mail letter thingy at:

the lloyd-tones
po box 9543
austin, tx 78766

or, if you insist on being all digital, you can always reach us at contact (at) lloydtones (dot) com. please pardon the lame attempt at obfuscating the address. I’d like this one to remain safe from wild spambots harvesting it and the subsequent inundation by viagra offers and nigerian email scams.

still listening

it’s a very strange thing, to listen to your own music this much. eventually it stops being “you” and just starts being something you (hopefully) enjoy listening to. that happened mid-song on the drive to work last week. there’s definitely some slight remixing to do before we can dive into mastering, but we’re oh-so-close! stay tuned, amigos.
